Dentures are one of the most affordable, straightforward ways to restore all of that at once.

What are dentures?

Dentures are removable prosthetic teeth that fill the gaps left by missing teeth, restoring both your bite and your smile. They're typically held in place by suction, though they can also be stabilised with dental implants for extra security if you'd prefer something more secure than a removable plate.

Missing teeth is more common than people think — decay, periodontal disease, poor oral hygiene and accidents are all common causes, particularly as we get older.

Types of dentures we offer

Full conventional dentures

For replacing all of your upper or lower teeth at once. An affordable, well-established option that delivers a complete, natural-looking smile.

Partial dentures

If you still have healthy teeth remaining, a partial denture snaps in around them, replacing only what's missing. They're generally smaller than a full denture and can be made with either an acrylic or metal base.

Implant-supported dentures

As few as 2–4 implants can anchor a full arch denture to stop it rocking or slipping through the day, or you can opt for an implant-secured bridge as a permanent alternative. Because implant placement is a surgical procedure, that part of treatment is carried out by our sister practice, Dentist WA — we handle the denture design and fitting once the implants have healed.

Dentures are metal, acrylic, or made from a plate designed to fit over the bone and soft tissues of your jaw. Ceramic or acrylic false teeth are attached to the plate, matching any remaining teeth to create a natural look.

Depending on whether you get conventional or immediate, and full or partial, your exact treatment plan timeline will look a little different. However, once they are placed and fitted, there will be an adjustment period as you get used to wearing them while speaking, eating, and drinking.

How dentures are made

Conventional dentures are custom-made after any remaining teeth needing removal have healed — typically placed 8–12 weeks after extraction, which means a longer wait but a better fit from day one.

Immediate dentures are made and fitted on the same day your teeth are removed, so you're never without teeth during healing. The trade-off is they'll need adjusting and refitting more often as your gums change shape in the following months.

Either way, we take an impression of your mouth and send it to our local dental lab, where technicians we've worked with for years craft a custom denture — acrylic, metal, or a combination base with ceramic or acrylic teeth matched to your remaining natural teeth for a seamless look.

What to expect at your dentures appointment

For a full denture, the general process looks like:

• If teeth need extracting first, we'll fit an immediate denture straight after so you're never without teeth
• The immediate denture fits well but not perfectly, and will need readjusting as your gums heal over the following weeks and months
• Once your gums have settled, we take impressions for your custom conventional denture
• Your custom denture takes a few weeks to be crafted at our local lab
• You return to have it fitted, checked for comfort, and adjusted to avoid rubbing
• There's an adjustment period as you get used to wearing it day and night — eating, drinking and talking
• We'll monitor your gum health and denture fit at ongoing check-ups, and adjust further if needed
